Summary

Don’t hide. That was what his mom and dad had told him. Don’t hide. Live.
But sometimes he had to hide to live. Sometimes, when darkness crept over the world and horrible things prowled in the night, their howls rending the empty air, he had to hide. Sometimes it was up in the hollows of trees or in (hopefully) abandoned animal burrows. For a few nights, it had been in a tiny little chamber inside a cave, with a terrible clawed creature prowling around the opening, trying to scratch its way in, the sound of claws scraping on stone tearing into his sleep.
Every day, he lived just like he’d promised them, but he lived in fear. He feared that he wouldn't be able to find dinner and he feared that things would make dinner of him. Every night, he dreamed terrible dreams of teeth and claws and outstretched hands covered in tar.
All the while, Guy wondered why. Why had he survived? Why had he taken those few steps to the side that meant he hadn't gone slipping over that ledge into the tar pit? Why was he still going at all? What was the point of all this?

Summary
When a dragon comes home injured after a hunting run it becomes clear that the Vikings of Berk need to have a chat with their allies the Bog-Burglars to get them on the same page about the dragons. In an effort to prove himself after overhearing his father say that he still doesn't trust him yet with chief work, Hiccup manages to convince Stoick to send him on a diplomacy run to meet with the Bog-Burglars' chieftainess, Bertha. Things on Hopeless are not all that they seem, however, and Hiccup’s curiosity and attempts to unravel the island’s mysteries land him in some serious hot water. Can his friends save him before his life and sanity are forfeit--and before the dragon-training knowledge falls into the hands of Berk's enemies?

Summary
When dragon-hunting plans go horribly awry and this year's Snoggletog is ruined, Hiccup is close to giving up on taking down a dragon and planning on resigning himself to a lonely fate as the village's future replacement hermit. After Hiccup entreats Odin to give him a sign that Snoggletog can be fixed and that he can someday be accepted by the village, his prayers are answered in the form of a sleigh crashing to Earth, carrying five very strange spirits that promise to help him make this Snoggletog one to remember.

Summary
Jack Frost has spent the last three hundred years trying to find the place where he belongs and at long last, he's found it with the Guardians. Unfortunately for Jack, learning the ropes of being a Guardian isn't easy, especially when you're not used to being a team player. As the Guardians face new enemies and old ones in their mission to protect the children of the world, Jack must look within himself to find the strength necessary to do the impossible, and the humility to learn from his own mistakes.

Summary
She is two and a half, and Jack can’t stand to see her cry.
It is the dead of winter, and the harvest this year is the worst he can remember. There is not food enough to go around, and though the adults bear it silently – though Jack, impressed with his own status as big brother, bears it silently – his sister is still too small to pretend that hunger does not eat at the house like a sickness. She wakes in the night, filling the room they share with hiccuping little sobs.

“I was referring to you, my dear boy.”
“Me?” There was a moment of genuine surprise as Jack peered at his captor, attempting to make out enough of the man’s expression to gauge it. His thoughts turned and tumbled, came together and pulled apart with nothing to show for it. After years of exclusion, of being ignored, his mind was not fast to provide a reason why someone might require him. “But I don’t have anything else.”
“Nonsense.” The form of the man blurred, dissolved – and when the voice came again, it was much nearer his ear, so close that he could feel the warmth of breath. “You have the most important thing of all.” The touch came without warning, uncomfortably hot fingers skirting the back of his neck. Jack jerked – gasped – spun around, hands up before him, to find nothing there. “Fear,” said the voice, low and insinuating, and the chuckle that pealed from it was like a funeral bell.
