Summary
Belladonna taught her child a great deal about how to stay safe in a world dangerous to women. So when a lot of intimidating dwarves barge into Bilbo's house to take her on what sounds like a suicide mission, this Bilbo is not as unprepared as she might have been.
Or, that fanfic in which Bilbo is a butch. This is not, from the outset, a romance--every other genderswap/sexswap story I've read in this fandom has whichever character be female just to create a het pairing, but this isn't that. I might decide to add some relationship in later, but it won't be your typical straight relationship, I promise. Reader input welcome on how you want this story to end.

As I said on my journal, praising the excellent and imaginative universe- and character- exploration of this brilliant story, "I feel a little guilty, because on seeing the grand stories that truly explore the implications of gender variations, part of my reaction is relief as I write my little gender swap tales, since there are other gender swap stories about much wider aspects of existence than het romances so I can let my focus stay narrow if I want. Maybe I shouldn't let myself off the hook to write meaty universe explorations instead of little smutty bonbons, but I can't imagine what I would say that authors such as hobbitdragon aren't saying in the most wonderfully, intelligently thoughtful ways."

Written for a prompt on the Hobbit Kink Meme: After a particularly harrowing battle, Gimli is dead tired. Legolas has him ride in front of him, so that he can keep the dwarf from falling off. He sings Gimli a song in elvish. Gimli can't understand the words, but it slowly lulls him to sleep.

This is a lovely story balanced at the crux where friendship and relationship fic are one, and all about love and mortality, very beautiful. Highly recommended.

I have never read as many WIPs as I do in this fandom; the brilliant authors here make them more than worthwhile. This is an excellent example, a rich, complex, slow-burning Thorin/Thranduil tale with a splendidly ancient Thranduil and a young, fierce, yet never vanquished Thorin.

He thinks at first it is a fruit of his pain-clouded mind, but no- it echoes again, and with the first rays of the sun he sees- a small army of dwarves on the hill top, charging to their aid.
It is Dis and her female dwarves, who upon receiving news about Erebor (from Erlond) refused to sit and wait and decided to act. "

This is the 'Hobbit Sex Lottery' story which arose from my wondering aloud on Tumblr, shortly after seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for the first time, whether anyone had written dwarves-on-hobbit orgy fic yet. I was astonished at the eager response to something I'd chiefly meant as a joke, so I wrote... this. It has grown far, far beyond the original concept and has been very kindly received. Lots of affectionate filthy sex, occasional forays into character exploration, and more Thilbo and Bilbofur than you can shake an Oakenshield or a mattock at.

If reading the author's summary doesn't make you want to read this, how does knowing that this contains some of the most skillful writing I've ever seen about sex as worldbuilding and sex as characterization and writing about sex and love in general? Or that it's sidesplittingly funny, achingly wistful, and incredibly hot? Or that it made me break my longstanding rule against WIPs? Or that the descriptions of food are porn in and of themselves? Or... oh, just read it. You'll be glad you did.
