Please note that I gleefully take great liberties with the laws governing same sex relationships and how they are seen in the Regency Era. As in, it is not an issue at all in this story. At all.

Sherlock finally looks at him. The full force of his gaze freezes John where he stands, backed up against the table and about to reach for the kettle. John sees Sherlock's adam's apple bob. Then Sherlock's fist unclenches, and all at once the towel falls.
India ink over copper. Something is bright is found just beneath the surface.

Professor Holmes wasn't a man that considered himself to have many friends. In fact he only had one, and that was only on the internet. But things change when John turns to Sherlock as his wife slowly dies. In that time, Sherlock starts to act in a way he's not use to... selfless. Sometimes love blooms in unusual places.
