    Summary

The Lesters – the royal family of his homeland – was nothing like Dan thought they would be. Well, the King was just as horrible as he had heard but the King’s brother’s son, who was third in line for the throne, was nothing like Dan thought he’d be. Dan had been adrift for three years going from one “place of employment” to another, only his life was seen as worthless and he was more property than an employee. He had never imagined he’s end up as the property of Prince Philip.

The Prince had no intention of ever taking on a personal servant, which was a fancy name to disguise the fact a law essentially enslaved people. Phil often had to do things he didn’t want to or risk being removed from the succession to the crown. If that happened, who knew who his tyrant of an uncle would pick as a successor? When pressured into the choosing, he’d wanted to go for the most innocent, young girl, but hard brown eyes caught his attention instead.

    Summary

"Dan’s two minute sonatas reduce to one minute and then to a sad thirty seconds of something lilting and beautiful. It’s sad in such a way that Phil, having begged Dan to play, actually can’t stand and listen to something so full of longing. Sad in a way that it could have been written for Phil (but not possible. Dan doesn’t even know Phil). Sad in a way that Dan could just walk over, take Phil’s heart from his chest and say can I have this? and Phil would say of course, it’s yours".

Or: Witch Phils and the Piano Playing Dans that they just want to make happy (with a sprinkling of magic).

    Summary

“Dan had wished for someone peaceful because he was absolutely not peaceful. His mind never felt peaceful; it was a constant tempest of angst and worries and existential crises. He’d said bright clothes because he always wore black. Kind because he wasn’t always kind, he could be sarcastic and rude, on a bad day. Patient because, to love him, they would have to be patient. You needed a lot of patience to deal with him, he could be realistic about that.

It was, in reality, a person who (if they met) would not love Dan at all. A person that Dan could safely be in complete love with from afar, which was the whole point.”

Or: When he was eleven Dan wished for Phil to help with a family curse that there’s no hope of breaking. Fifteen years later he’s stationed in coastal Wales, working the late shift in a supermarket while secretly protecting a whole village from various supernatural beings. Everything is going fine(ish) until Phil, impossibly, shows up.

    Summary

"Even if you look...” Dan falters.

“What?” Phil says. Dan's half-smiling, avoiding Phil's eye. “Even if I look what?”

“Like,” Dan hesitates, licking his bottom lip, and Phil's heart squeezes tight in his chest for all of half a second. “Well, you don't look like a trained killer, put it that way.”

In which Phil's an ex vampire hunter who's entirely too preoccupied by Dan's dimple and his eyes and his laugh to notice the fact that he might actually be in love with a vampire (Sequel to Hanging Out With Corpses)
