Summary
After the Battle of the Five Armies, Kili, Prince of Erebor, is haunted by nightmares and memories. He is afraid that a secret, a secret he cannot afford to have discovered, will be uncovered. He fears the reactions of those he is closest too. After a nightmare nearly reveals his secret he decides he needs to leave the Lonely Mountain.
He does so in secrecy, unable to risk anyone following him, and travels until he reaches the home of Billa Baggins, the Hobbit burglar who promised her door would always be open to the dwarves of the Company. But will she be so willing to open her home to him when she learns the dark secret he carries? Will she still be as accepting? Kili can only pray to Mahal that she will because he has no one else to turn to.

Not that he’d be happier with any of the other wizards visiting him at all. If Saruman had appeared on his doorstep he’d die of fright or more likely shock. In the shire a saying had become popular after Belladonna Took had run off with the wizard and returned three days late for her wedding some months later: Where Gandalf went there would be trouble.
