AU. After Stiles' dad died in the Hale fire, the Argents took him in, left Beacon Hills and trained him to be a Hunter. They give him weapons and tell him the family business- Hunting- is a lifestyle, not a job. Especially for them. Argents are Hunter royalty, as it turns out, so Genim has a lot to live up to, even though Allison- his sister, of sorts- won’t find out until later on. She’ll lead them, in her time, whereas Stiles will fight for them, a soldier. Stiles always did like Captain America, it has to be said.
Or the one where Stiles is a good Hunter that manages to fall in love with Derek Hale. This... is not his day.

Stiles gets a tattoo when he turns eighteen. Derek notices. Quietly.

The tattoo is vein-like and strange, but it’s so very…right. It’s not necessarily a picture, but free-flowing lines that wind around his arm and dip and dance around his scars. It makes him feel free, makes him feel powerful.
He goes in for his second tattoo when he’s about to leave for school in Southern California.
It's not so much of a second one as a continuation. He decides that, though the pattern isn't of branches it acts like them, so he branches it down over his shoulder and down to the center of his back, kind of like draping a toga. At the center of his back the lines concentrate and sort of circle. He adds a splash of jade-shaded almond shapes and feels stronger somewhere deep inside.

Kate Argent had a lot of secrets, some of which she took to the grave. When one of them shows up on Chris Argent's doorstep in the form of Kate's five-year-old daughter, it's not long before more to come to light -- namely, that Kate's crimes against Derek Hale didn't begin and end with the murder of his family. It's no surprise that as soon as Derek learns about his daughter's existence, he decides that nothing will keep him from claiming the only family he still has in the world. Stiles finds himself firmly in the middle of the Hale-Argent family drama, slowly growing more certain of his feelings for Derek and ever more sure of the inevitable heartbreak they'll bring.

Summary
Every big city has its share of organized crime. This city is no different, having a long-term association with the Hale family crime organization. The problem for this particular city, however, is that the crime has been getting steadily worse each year. In part due to Peter Hale's leadership, which is ruthless and cunning, and in part because of his highly effective nephew Derek Hale who has taken on the mantle of his family upon his parents' deaths.
Nobody has been able to infiltrate the Hale family using conventional covers. A guy couldn't just hang around one of their bars until he looked familiar enough to one of their goons to start asking about some action. They were too good for that. Way too good for that.
And someone has to take them down.
But there was only one route left. A difficult route. A new face that none of the Hale family's informants would know. And a young enough face to fit the profile of the sort of boy Derek Hale might... recruit.

Derek falls into a deep depression after his pack leaves him. Stiles is the only one he lets in.
Stiles doesn’t ask about all of the mirrors in the house, or why some of the glass shards on the floor are edged with blood. He just kisses knuckles already healed, because the damage goes so much deeper than skin.
