    Summary

After the death of his brother, Robert Baratheon needs a loyalist Lord on Dragonstone. He also really wants back in Ned's good graces.

Or, the Game goes on after the Rebellions. The Starks still won't play, but everyone is playing the Game all around them, and Jon Sand has somehow become an important piece. Robert Baratheon, unknowingly, is the Targaryens' greatest asset.

    Summary

This is how the world actually works: instead of leading soldiers into battle, Shang is given command over a disorganized bunch of conscripted civilians who don't know the business end of a sword. Instead of fighting to defend China, he is stuck training these misfits into something resembling soldiers. And instead of being devoted to a wife or his job as a soldier, he is becoming attracted to one of his men.

If Fa Zhou had a son that wasn't as interested in the art of war, it could be easy for the boy to have learned to play the imbecile rather than the warrior, purely as protection.

Shang, battered and still half dazed, realizes he recognizes her too. She is Ping and Mulan both; they are her yin and her yang, and neither one is a lie.

Dude, Shang's pov is just...majestic. How he tries and even his first thoughts and opinions on Ping is so interesting.

He takes my hand, after a pause. Perhaps I aimed too high, Kore, he says. He continues to look perplexed.
We are of a height. It pleases me. Perhaps I stooped too low, Hades, I say. There is such a thing as compromise. There is such a thing as love at first sight. (Though this is third sight, perhaps, or fourth and the light is flattering.)

These two seem to have the most functional marriage in the pantheon, even if their own fights and problems do plague them. They surprised one another and yet still chose the other.

I also adore that Persephone is no wilting violet that just accepts her husbands lovers. No, she crushes them in the the palm of her hand or bottom of her foot and moves on. She rules.

“It’s Stockholm Syndrome,” says Demeter, swirling her cocktail. “You mark my words.”
“It was long before Stockholm, Mother, and I made my choice. The place needed a woman’s touch.”
Demeter looks unimpressed. For once, Hades is in accordance with his sister.

Its lovely how the two just seem to fit and I like the idea that Hades visits her above in the summer while he's missing her and blaming the dog for it.

One god's apocalypse is another god's whimper. (In which Ragnarök gives Zeus a mild headache.)

“Are you a god?” asks Zeus. “Really?” He looks Thor up and down, and Víðarr, too.
The storm outside is all Zeus’ doing now. Thor’s eyes grow wide. “How are you-?”
“We do not all need hammers,” says Zeus. “The important thing is that you believe in yourself.”
Zeus has never lacked for self-belief. It is the sustenance of gods, these days.

Not all Gods (and Goddesses) are created equal. Not all Pantheon's are of equal power.

    Some don't know that.
