We hear lots of terrible parenting stories in response to kids coming out. But if Rule Number One is "Mama Loves You," then it can go a whole lot better than that.

http://www.whofic.com/series.php?seriesid=2812 for the whole complete series. I'm bringing it over a couple chapters at a time, but you can read the whole thing there.

This series is my massive fixit for everything after Journey's End. It was sparked in part by RTD commenting, "She never would have chosen the clone, but we didn't have a choice," or something to that effect. I agree completely. And once Rose doesn't leave her Doctor, everything shifts from then forward. It is also a fixit for End of Time, Children of Earth, and the oops year.

Hiroko doesn’t need to see to coat pork cutlets in egg and panko. She has made this dish for her family for over thirty years; she’ll make it another thirty, if she’s lucky.

Now she makes it for Yuuri and Victor as they fly home from Barcelona, with silver around their necks and gold around their fingers.

So this is fucking amazing, intensely good, does not pull punches. It has a lot of characters making questionable choices in entirely plausible ways and incredible use of language, some of the best writing I've seen in this fandom.

It does contain teenagers doing the kinds of things teenagers do, including having sex, drinking alcohol, in ways that feel pretty fucking realistic to my own experiences of being a teenager way back when, but which do not feel exploitative. IOW, this isn't necessarily the positive example you want your own kids to read, but it feels pretty damn cathartic if you were a teenager once who made questionable choices and lived with the consequences.

Characterization is utterly, completely spot on. Well researched and gut-punchingly introspective. There aren't many chapters (chapter 1 is novella-length, so is chapter 2) so pace yourself or set aside a block of time.

Immersive and excellent, it takes us from Yuuri's Junior days to the end of season 1. Chapter 2 is a retelling of the entire series which fills in and elaborates. It follows canon very closely.
