Summary
His hands are dry and cold and when he can breathe again, he's in his armchair, and nothing, nothing is sane anymore.
Richard Brook is the lie, not Sherlock Holmes, and if John has to rip the world apart to prove it, then his laptop is as good a place to start as any.

Erik is at war. He knows what humanity does to those who are different, and he will not see it happen again. But Charles...Charles won’t help him. Charles seems intent on fighting him. Charles has to be stopped, and stopping him is simple enough. He’ll understand, in time. That this is the only way to make him safe, to make them all safe. On the way out of charms, James and Marlene had jointly, enthusiastically put Lily officially in charge of all Christmas decorating for time immemorial, or at least until the end of seventh year, which was practically the same thing.

Summary
The silence is what Erik enjoys most about the early morning, and this one proves no exception.

Notes
The tactile presence in each phase of this was a real pleasure. Love many things, but particularly this gorgeous phrase: stranger still in the way that a kiss can feel like a room with open windows. Also Erik's uncertainty in negotiating the idea of non-sexual intimacy, Charles's sickly-sweet-fabulous charm upon waking, and both of them on Charles's pyjamas.

Summary
The problem with America, as Erik sees it, is that it’s such a damned big country that being told there’s a place to stay, “in the next town over,” can mean a journey of anywhere from ten minutes to two hours. And since he and Charles are forever forgetting to ask for clarification along with directions, it becomes a game of Interstate Highway Roulette as to how long they’ll be on the road before the next small town rises up out of the flat Midwestern nothing.

Notes
Understated and lovely; hot but with character handled beautifully and delicately.
