A STARMAN 25th Anniversary Fan Fiction
Commemorating the founding of Spotlight STARMAN International on May 22, 1987The new single dad of a 10 year old boy, Scott learns the joys and tribulations of instant fatherhood, while searching for larger quarters somewhere near his parents in Baraboo, Wisconsin to replace his cramped bachelor pad in Madison. As he tries to teach STARMAN family values to Scotty, he finds he is often asking himself, “What would Dad say?” While hiking around Devil’s Lake near Baraboo, Paul and Scott discuss parenting and Scott’s feelings for Julie. Scott’s parental skills are put to the test when Scotty experiences his first crisis in dealing with real life, and Scott has to come up with an answer to a pivotal question his son raises.
[Although sometimes slightly fictionalized for the story, all locations mentioned exist in the real world. Troy and Alana and most details of the event and its aftermath described in the story are also real, although the location has been changed to fit our fanfic universe.]

Summary
Set in September 2005.
After reuniting with Jenny, the FSA captures the whole family and Starman gives himself in the hands of the military with the condition to let Jenny and Scott go. After an unsuccessful rescue attempt his family is told that Starman had died. He is moved to a secret research center and stays there for the next 19 years without his family knowing of his existence. To keep the number of persons knowing of him as small as possible, George Fox becomes the leader of the research center. Then, almost two decades later, the government finds out that Jenny has written a book about her alien lover lately. Starman’s condition isn’t good after being kept in isolation all these years. George’s last duty before he retires is to make Jenny pull the book. Circumstances lead to the point that he takes Starman with him when he goes to see Jenny about the book. Ben steals the spheres from the safe, knowing this trip is Paul’s only chance to escape.

Continuation of "Live Free or Die"
Paul and Scott are free, the hunt is over, Fox assumed dead. They still live at the farm owned by the older couple. The government wants to have a meeting with everyone who knew the alien and his son to talk to them in person. Dr. Ellen Duchow visits Paul, since Wylie has called her to check on him. The same day Liz Baynes comes to the farm as well, also informed that Paul is living here now in peace. Kathryn Bradford follows the next day, as well as Mark Shermin. When the meeting takes place, George Fox suddenly pops up and orders Forrester to surrender.

2002 Fan Quality Award - Honorable Mention
On September 11, 2001, when we had so much else to think about, writing about an alien and his son seemed almost frivolous. Still, we needed to connect even more. "Starman" yet again provided the vehicle, depicting his reactions to an entire spectrum of experiences from a horrific event. If we couldn't escape reality, we'd bring reality to our escape. Can a 15 year old series be relevant today? We say yes. We hope our efforts honor "Starman" and all those whose lives have been touched by September 11th's tragedy.
In this story, set in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Paul and Scott (now 29), have found Jenny, settled down, and there's a new child, Lizzie. Scott has a 12-year-old cousin, Will, and for a contrasting perspective from the contemporary Scott, we’ve included the 14-year-old Scott, as he appeared in the TV series, hypothesizing what he might think.
