Summary
Gamzee Makara has a reputation to live up to, being the son of the Grand Highblood but when he finds a friend in young Tavros Nitram he doesn't give to thoughts about it. Until his new friend is accused of being a spy, the son of The Summoner himself, and is sentenced to death.
Sweeps later, Gamzee is living up to his reputation as a high subjugglator, fighting the war against the lowbloods that dare to try to overthrow him. But he never thought to see his long lost friend come, quite abruptly, back into his life.

When he starts making his way toward you, your heartbeat starts to pick up the pace, and you panic slightly. Suddenly, you aren't quite sure what to do with yourself. The feeling of being out of place washes over you once again, actually feeling worse now than it did when Jade first left your side after getting here. If your drink was still in your hand, now would have been a perfect time to take a large swig and look nonchalant. You silently scold yourself for abandoning it earlier.

Summary
In an world where they never played the game, the only way for Tavros to avoid being culled is for a highblood to take him as their slave. His matesprit is the obvious choice, but Gamzee finds himself deeply disturbed by the new found power imbalance.
While this is first and foremost a story about Gamzee and Tavros, it's also the first chapter in the Dark Season AU. Feferi's plans for the throne have been discovered and the group has to decide if they'll join her cause or stand by the reigning Empress.
