Summary
Six years ago, without the Avengers Initiative there to save the day, scientist Dr. Eric Selvig sacrificed himself to save the world, the almighty demi-god Thor was lost to a terrible storm, and vigilante Iron Man – spotted with a nuclear weapon trying to take advantage of the situation – was forever labelled an enemy of SHIELD.
This is a comic book office AU, where Steve is defrosted a year too late, Thor has forgotten who he is, and no one knows Tony is Iron Man.
Also includes: office pranks, inappropriate post-it notes, and superheroes who like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain

Marvellously meta, immense fun and with a very credible romance. Steve Rogers, comix artist, rocks.
And obviously Hawkeye has a Katniss Everdeen action figure. Obviously.
And TONY.
And THOR.
And ... [*happy dreamy look*]

At this rate we'll be an Aztalan client by mid-summer, and that's assuming they don't just raze us to the ground and salt the remains. Pigface Psychopomp, boys, they'll sell our brats into hard labor in Ticonderoga, set up a sacrificial pit in the Embarcadero, spit corpses on the spire of Saeta House."

Without a doubt, the single greatest invention of the Twelfth Age was the Rube Suit. It allowed the lost ghost-glitches to interact with the living world of Ur, if only for a few moments, and they rejoiced.

Once, in the days when there was still an Archmage on Roke, the men of Orrimy sought his help to lay a ghost.

“The Archmage is not on Roke,” the Doorkeeper said.
“Off with dragons, I suppose,” Cray said, secretly a little thrilled, and gave the Doorkeeper a smile which was meant to convey that he fully understood the mysterious ways of mages.
“He knows your situation,” the Doorkeeper said, and did not tell Cray that the Archmage was currently a dolphin, bathing in the moonlight and listening to the songs of the pods that swam along the coast of Roke.
This has the simplicity of a Le Guin story, and that sense of the foregrounded problem not being the real issue. And interwoven with that, the quiet indignation that Cray barely thinks of his wife by name but only as possession. And underlying it all, Ged -- Sparrowhawk -- quiet and wise and waiting and compassionate. (I'm reminded of the beginning of The Furthest Shore.) -

I tilted my head to the side and contemplated her mismatched eyes, the sunset in her hair bleeding out into steam behind her. Her jacket was denim now, the skin beneath it bare to my touch if I reached out for her. She was wearing neon yellow leggings and sandals now, and I could see that my black summer dress was blood red and dripping all over the floor like candle wax.
This was a dream, then. This wasn't the world I belonged in. This wasn't real, and I had to get back to my real children in the real world.

Then, suddenly, she and the prince were going to be married.
He did not ask her, of course. He did not think he had to. To the kingdom, she was their miracle princess saved from death and the grave by true love. To him, she was the dead girl he had bought from the dwarves. He had paid gold and jewels for a corpse in a casket, and she could tell he thought that she was still his property, even though she was breathing and therefore of far less use to him.
Snow White (and Sleeping Beauty): the dark side of Prince Charming, hints of necrophilia, issues of consent, and the princess using snow and blood and night -- like her skin, her lips, her hair -- to finally defeat him. Utterly gruesome depiction of stepmother's fate. Gorgeous chilling prose. -

He presses a kiss to Hadrian's collarbone. "I love you, too. Even though you're—" It comes out of Antinous' mouth before he can stop it. No, don’t tell the emperor that he's old.
Hadrian gives a little laugh. "Well, if you're too old to be anyone's beloved, then I am certainly rather too old to be anyone's lover. I won't tell if you don't."
Antinous nearly nineteen, and thinking he's too old -- cast aside. Hadrian as present as Antinous, whose perspective it is. -

“Remember,” he said, “to fly, you have to forget about falling, to be a stone, you have to forget about softness, to be a fish, you have to forget how to breathe air, to be a man, you have to forget that you’re a woman, to be a god you have to forget you're a giant, to tell the truth, you have to forget you’re telling lies, and to live, you have to forget you’re dying.”
“I cannot,” Odin said regretfully. “You know that I cannot.”
“Then your last option,” Loki said and kissed him, “is to remember everything and be mad. That always worked for us.”
One-eyed giantess, folklore and myth and all kinds of story-threads woven together. Thor and Loki and Odin all gloriously in-character. -

He carries a blade, and loves to show he does so—
For oh, oh the fright of it, the fight of it, the joy of it, the desire of it, the need and clashing and steel purity of it –oh, he would do it again and again and once more for to wear the scar –
Oh God! Oh God! Hamlet!
Laertes ...
But at his back, whatever he does, whatever he finds, whatever he comes to discover of himself, whatever love and grappling hooks of steel tether him to this new world and new earth, he hears and knows his own wings of time, his own personal mockery of a ticking clock; the voice that tells him:Hamlet did this first and was more beloved and loving than you for all your new-found enjoyment can ever be.

“He should,” Mumbles says. It's probably the alcohol, sloshing around and making his thoughts tangle like wires, but he can see Bob's low mood dragging him down like it's got a physical hold of him, and life would be a lot fucking easier if One Two could see what was right in front of him and suddenly discover his own inner queen. “One Two could do a lot fucking worse than you, mate. He has done before.”

"Hey," she says, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "What's Zeke's thing with apocalypses, anyway?"
You pause, a beer bottle cool in each hand. Nobody's actually asked you that before, and suddenly you're remembering the floodwaters rising, the screams coming from outside the boat. You and him clinging to each other, dry inside the pitch-covered walls, the rising water and the terror of the animals and the stomach-churning feeling of the boat leaving dry ground. His mother's voice from outside, drowning.
Takes a song (and the band who perform it) and turns it into something mythic in scope. Second-person world-weary narrative voice is stupendous -
