Melanie House suffers from the Aristophanes disease, a rare autoimmune illness which causes periods of bad health and deterioration until the sufferer finds the one other random sufferer who is his or her match. She's put into a special school which enables sufferers to meet others with the disease, and hopefully ups the odds of being matched. As if being a teenager isn't hard enough.
