Summary
Written for the following prompt: "Someone write me Crowley the bitter lesbian who only gave Eve the apple because she thought feminism should be there from day one." As such, please be warned that this story contains some fairly radical reinterpretations of Biblical stories and themes; if that sort of thing is not for you, please give this tale a pass.

Bookmarker's Notes
The Alpha/omega analogy for heterosexual relationships is kinda terrifying. Especially because most fics erotize oppression instead of dominance and submission and it's too depressingly close to reality to be hot. Especially with its emphasis on female desire and how the only options are renouncing it or renouncing everything else and most of the time it seems the only way they get to have both is by bonding and trusting the alpha to be good to them (and some men are, but that ain't the fucking POINT). I know it's a fantasy, but I'm an academic reader and it does say a lot about the real world, too. I do like the way that by having alphas and omegas be of either sex the implication is that the divide, like that of gender, is random.
But Hazel is an amazing writer and she took it and made it her bitch (all the puns intended). Normally Omegas (women) want to do things in these stories besides getting married but once in a relationship their 'instincts' will force them to behave appropriately. Jonathan and Patrick do not want that kind of relationship, they have instincts, sure, but being rational human beings, they deal with them taking into account both their own and the other's needs and wishes (as stated) instead of just letting them direct their lives.

It takes a few years but eventually they manage to agree on something; Derek Hale is an asshole, and Stiles Stilinski is in love with him.

Bookmarker's Notes
The plot wonders aimlessly. A character is introduced and then promptly forgotten ( and she's still constantly around). Also, the best part of the UST, the moment when they first get together, is skipped and briefly retold from a future perspective. Not saying I didn't laugh a lot but i also have serious issues with Derek's characterization (Derek isn't sassy or sarcastic, sorry) so no cookies.

Summary
I squirmed, pinned between him and the counter. "It’s not – look, I don’t run to schedule, okay?" I said. "Don’t – I’m not easy."
"You don’t say." Okay, that much sarcasm was uncalled for.
"I mean it," I said doggedly. "I’m not one of those ‘insert coin, pull lever’ girls."

Bookmarker's Notes
So I’m writing my dissertation about how all slash is really an exploration of female sexuality and genderswap is sort of the last step in that process, in the sense that you take a character everybody loves, a guy who can be a hero, and then re-position him into a female body and sometimes even a feminine gender and you explore all your issues. All those things you can never talk about happening to a female character because of how very close they are, and you give them to this guy, who is safe because he is a guy and guys can do no wrong, right? Furthermore, nobody judges guys’ entire lives for how good they are at relationships (they get judged for other shit, obviously, but this is an exploration of female issues, don't get distracted!) so their relationships can be (mostly) about them and this other person they love and want to spend time with or maybe are really hot for. And this fic, girls, this fic goes all the fucking way, it’s daring and brave and smart and I loved it to bits. I don’t even like het. But of course genderswap is not really het, is it now? Except Ms Harry Dresden, name unchanged and all, is very clearly a woman in more than body but she is also Harry, who refuses to be owned to the point of absurd and thinks experimenting with things that might explode is reasonable behaviour. The real question is, can she exist without him existing first? And at some point I would like to be able to say: sure. But right now I’ll have to make do with genderfuck and this is probably the best always-a-girl I have read.
