    Summary

Let’s talk about a Susan who never moved on, who buried her family in English soil and spent the rest of her life trying to find her way home. She did not believe lions were kind, but she always remembered a bow in her schoolgirl hands.

She looked in every old wardrobe she came across. It was casual, everyday– the first day in a new lecture hall, she checked the back of the coat closet. Friends had her over for Christmas dinner and she excused herself to go the bathroom, checked every cabinet and closet, and then headed back in for pudding. She went home with a cute boy she met in a smoky little pub and she checked his wardrobe before she headed home the next morning, heels in hand.

She also went to college, got a political science degree she had to fight for. She got a byline in the local paper, a few ladies’ magazines, then a larger regional publication.

She had mimosa brunches with friends. She read detective novels, never touched fantasy, and finally one day she stepped through an old stone archway barely thinking about it and–-

She was standing in a treeless plain, all yellow grass and blue blue skies.

    Summary

"Maedhros sought destruction body and spirit, and found both. When Mandos summoned him, he refused, and first of them all he has been taken by the void that they swore themselves to. He is not in the world, and will not come again. Deeper darknesses are there than that which Morgoth made below Thangorodrim!” Fingon paused and looked at Finrod. “Should I not then have killed him as he asked me?”

“No!” said Finrod, but Turgon said nothing.

Sam grew even more upset. “Now that’s not right,” he said, “that can’t be right! Just or not – and I don’t know that it is, begging your pardon, sir – still, no story should end that way!”

    Bookmarker's Notes

One of the better fics that I've seen for Tolkien, and the best fic for the pairing that I've seen.
I wanted something akin to this, more speculation about Maedhros and his deeds, both good and evil and I think I've got one here.
Maedhros, Neylo will always be dear to me if only because he has so much weight on his shoulders. I've always pitied and loved Atlas for what he has been condemned to do; he is the pillar of the sky and though it might not be penitence that he does not surrender to the wait and send everything crashing down, he takes the burden on his shoulders because it is what he has to do. Maedhros is the same, taking every wrongdoing along with himself, keeping every sin to pay for them. He repents yet he never asks for forgiveness because he knows what he's doing wrong yet will not be able to break the binds of his father.
He does remind me of another character I've always adored, mostly because they both know that it will end badly for them, lose everything including their sanity on the road, and yet they never stop because it is what they need to do to live on, to survive their wrecked conscience and their sins and everything they tore apart for their goal. It's also similar that they both fail.

The first time Kel tilted Wyldon, she knew that his wife was in the stands with his Conservative friends. She didn't know what kind of conversations went on, or that the lady of Cavall was on her side.
