Kirk needs closure; he's haunted by Khan and he's haunted by the thought that he has failed Pike, in some way. His friends help him try and achieve the closure he needs, but they're all broken and they're going to have to work together to patch each other up. It's okay, though; in the end, they'll be alright. Post-Into Darkness angst, but the ending is sweet.
