It was true to say Greg had been to Sherlock what the Holmes boys father had never been: absent since Sherlock was ten - following a revelation that broke the already crumbling marriage of Siger and Violet - the boys had grown up angry, resentful and lacking half of the love and nurturing they needed as children. Mycroft held up his end of the anger, some of which was directed at Sherlock as much as their Dad, and their older brother who managed to escape everything, while Sherlock drove his deeper inside of him with needles and alcohol. Greg had come along for Sherlock at just the right time and Sherlock it seemed had come along precisely when Greg needed him, too....
