A/N: This is an AU that takes place in the universe of the novel The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. It doesn’t take any of the plot points, so if you haven’t seen it, you shouldn’t have any problem. Simply know that there has been a cataclysm, and that everything is dead, except a few humans. Some of them resorted to eat each other, while the rest survive on anything that remains, cans and other things. I hope you enjoy!

A brief moment of dreadful eye contact and the salesman was reminded all over again: Run. The beast readied to charge as Zacharie rounded the corner, feet sliding on the tile. His heart dropped, his exhausted legs buckled as he slid, causing him to founder and dive forward. He would have fell flat on his face, yet managed to push himself from the ground with one hand and keep his momentum.
