Wow. If you like courtroom drama, this is the story for you! The author clearly has a pretty firm grasp of the practice of law and that knowledge really shines through, granting the story quite a lot of depth. The emotions in this story also come through it's one heck of a ride!

This is angsty, tragic, and positively delightful. When unrequited love becomes too much for Merlin, he takes up with a stable boy, who wants anything Merlin is willing to give him. The boy's willing body and undemanding affection is pretty much the only thing keeping Merlin from falling completely apart and Arthur grows colder and more and more distant from him. The hurt Arthur and Merlin are both feeling is poignant—and the resolution delightfully unexpected.

Let it be known that I'm really, truly, and sincerely enjoying the stories being produced in the tobreakthespell fairy tale fest and this story is one of the exemplary reasons why. I really enjoy how Camelot is familiar, but changed and how easily the humour mixed with the romance to the point where we as the readers can easily divine Arthur's problem with the situation while Merlin remains a clueless idiot. Ah, boys! Is saying what you feel really so hard?

I love a good romance (in case you hadn't guessed) and this is certainly that! When Arthur and Gwen marry, they are already well aware of the fact that they don't love one another. They do it for companionship and because they have little hope of having their real love interests return their feelings. But maybe this isn't as true as they believed. And maybe it's never too late for love.

I've always been fond of stories that involve tasks of some sort, so this story has inevitably become one of my not-so-guilty pleasures (no shame!). The pacing is excellent and although we, as the readers, can guess at the truth of what is going on, it is still easy to sympathize with Arthur's feelings of restless longing throughout. The years have changed both Arthur and Merlin, but it's easy to see the boys they once were in the man they've become.
