Summary
(Book One of Matter of Chicago series) I tend to turn right by instinct when given a decision. Right-handed, evocate with my right side, and try to do the right thing.
But we've all done that, haven't we? Wondered what was going down in the universe next door. How one decision would shake up everything we knew.
What happens when we turn left.

Notes
Very in style, very in character. Great writing.
ETA after rereading (four times): WOW. It really gets better after rereading. Every sentence has its place. Every scene is important. Characters: appealing. Story: pulled me in and doesn't let me go. Sex: suggestive, but in small quantity and serves to enhance the characterization which is just as I like! Style: fantastic. This is one hell of a writer. I want to write a comment, I do, but how to write about perfection? -

He stood, leaving his plate of a sliced apple and opened the fridge – which, she could see from where she was standing, was strangely empty – and he pulled out a chocolate cake with nothing on top but one candle and a sprinkling of raspberries.
"Ted made it!" And she looked to Ted, who looked vaguely embarrassed, and she did the only thing she could do – she sat down, putting her keys on the counter and her jacket on the chair, taking the party hat offered to her by her odd, secretive partner and put it on her head.

Summary
I was probably going to be Thom forever, but I didn't really mind. Someone had to be the public face of the movement, and my place had been cemented there twice: once, when I gave my real first name to a disillusioned receptionist, and the second time, when I gave a fake one to a gay stranger.
