Their companionship is indeterminate, Holmes is juggling this whole new breed of friendship, and possessiveness can quickly become a man when he's only just learning how to function as one.
That said, regardless of who Watson's attracted to, he is eighty five percent sure that the man with the British accent standing in his doorway spells out nothing but trouble for his sober companion. Especially not when the eyes, those eyes are reminiscent of the fire he knows is within himself too.
He won't act on any niggling suspicion Watson's would-be beau is up to no good. Not yet. Not until he's gathered enough proof that her new companion is a dodgy one to back up his opinion; she'll have her freedom until then.
The funny thing is, he's a consultant for the NYPD and she was a surgeon and while neither of those roles can guarantee one hundred percent certainty, they both expect it.
