Summary
"The Serpent Cycle: The Professor" is written from Snape's point of view starting in November of 1981 just after Lily has died. I really wanted to retell the story from his perspective especially during that time period. I focused a lot on his daily life - how he copes with the loss and guilt over Lily, how difficult it is for him to assume the role of a professor, and how the students react to this young man that many of them attended school with - how they would reject him based on his low birth and inability to make political connections for him as Slughorn would have done. I imagined that he would not be well received at all, and that this would be a very difficult challenge for him considering that he was bullied and would not be comfortable around students. His transition from a beaten down boy to a formidable professor that the students would eventually come to fear is something that really interested me. I also focused a lot on the strained relationship between he and Dumbledore. I think there is a lot of mistrust between the two, but I rather imagine that both he and Snape had a lot more in common than either liked to admit.

Basically: "It’s a variation on the Jealous Jimmy/Valet Green plot, but Green and Thomas are BFF from way back, when they worked in the same house (even if Thomas was 24 or younger when he started at Downton, he must have had a job before that.) They’ve stayed in touch on and off all this time (his non-erotic penpal!) When Green, who is straight, (eyes for Daisy would be a bonus) comes to Downton, they’re all high-fives and 'Hey, bro!' and 'Remember that time we divided and conquered an entire shooting party by Sunday lunchtime?' and Jimmy, of course, is, 'Oh, no, Thomas does not have a better friend than me.'
