“Are you sure you’re not the one with the brain injury, Ray? I could call over Doc Bryan,” Brad offers with a mockingly raised eyebrow.
“Ha, fucking, ha,” Ray says. “But let’s see if you still think that the moment Doc Bryan calls you cuddle bug to your face.”

"So, how long have you and Gabe been fucking?"
James promptly choked on his bottle of Gin. His jaw dropped and he stared in sheer disbelief, looking like one of his retarded little brothers. "The fuck you say?"Doc smirked devilishly at him, that big shark-like grin on full display. James wanted to punch it off his stupid face but he knew better than to fuck with Doc. He would eat him alive. "Oh, c'me on, Chaffin. You didn't seriously expect me not to notice? My whole goddamn job is to observe your heinous ass. You, Garza, go. Talk,"
Well, fuck. The cat was out of the bag now.

Summary
After falling out of touch (which Brad would like everyone to know is just a thing that happens to adults and is not indicative of his own problems regarding communication with other human beings) Brad and Ray are thrown together during a destination wedding for one of their own. Bickering, name-calling, scheming, hijinks and romance ensue.
Inspired by Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, and more recently, the film Anyone But You, which is very silly but very sweet, and made me want to write my own spin for BradRay.

Summary
"Doc might not want to do this when he finds out it’s us. I don’t think he likes me all that much.”
Brad frowned at the comment, petting Ray a little soothingly despite himself.
Sure Doc could be abrasive, but Brad held him in high-esteem, even outside his laudable military accomplishments; for all that he seemed to have some kind of rage on a constant simmer, Doc was one of the most compassionate men Brad knew.
“Are you not into it?” He queried, careful.
“Oh, no, I’m into it.” Ray enthused. “Just, you know. Unexpected.”
Brad was still frowning. “I’d trust him with you.”
Ray with three co-tops, getting railed for the weekend.

Summary
Brad takes them right before signalling for them to fan out, presumably to cross the river. Ray immediately takes position behind his left shoulder and glances across to take a head count since Brad has his attention on getting them to the agreed position on time: Doc with that permanent frown, Walt and Gabe with their newbie Trombley sandwiching in the middle, then Lilley with Poke bringing up the rear. All present and accounted for.
He refocuses on the way ahead and makes it a foot or so more before his right knee gives way underneath him.

Summary
Eugene Roe has The Touch, as his Grandmère called it. It's the backbone of a traiteuse like her, she always said - the power to help the wounded and the sick and to take away their pain by touching them. It's a precious gift that only settles in those who have a pure heart and the strength to carry the burden it entails.
Being a medic during World War II only teaches Gene what his Grandmère meant when she said that The Touch entails a burden. Doc Roe doesn't feel like he has a pure heart, he doesn't feel strong, and he certainly doesn't feel like he's helping people.
Neither does Tim 'Doc' Bryan, almost sixty years later in an entirely different war. He has never heard of The Touch until after a tour gone wrong to Afghanistan, when by total chance he runs into a World War II veteran by the strange name of Babe who is very insistent that Tim meets a man called Eugene Roe.
NEW - Chapter 13: Gene freezes his butt off, desperately scrounges for medical supplies, meets a Touched nurse, gets a gift of chocolate, begins to overload on pain and somehow ends up in Heffron's foxhole. He's not entirely sure how it all happens.

Summary
The concrete floor makes Ray shiver, but the cold is a refreshing change from back alleys, open pastures, forest floors; he’s half-certain the last time he slept under a roof was the bordello in Austin and he certainly can’t remember the last time he stayed in one town for more than a single night. It hardly matters now, anyway. Stuck. Between the soft breathing of stranger-hicks in this tumbleweed town, waiting for dawn and for his friends to bail him out.
