Forgiving does not erase the bitter past. A healed memory is not a deleted memory. Instead, forgiving what we cannot forget creates a new way to remember. We change the memory of our past into a hope for our future. - Lewis B. Smedes

    Summary

"The Problem of Susan is that, one day, my daughter will come up to me and ask what happens to her. She will ask why Susan is not there at the end of The Last Battle and if I only tell her what is in the book, I will have to tell her that Susan is no longer in Narnia because she started wearing nylons and lipstick. But I refuse to tell her that, so here’s what I will tell her instead."

Ella siempre quiso crecer, y acabó olvidando la persona que era; o al menos eso sabemos todos. Tal vez, y sólo tal vez, no fue una decisión tan egoísta, pero al final nada de eso importa.

    Summary

She stands at their graves wearing dark lipstick, and she does not weep. She had been banished, and so she had moved on—and again, she was punished for it, left behind so that her clockwork heart could beat out her punishment, day in, day out. Because if Aslan would not accept her, then she would not seek him out, and so he left her abandoned and alone.

    Summary

“Shoot Susan, shoot!” She woke up with a muffled scream, the blanket scrunched beneath her hands and a sob tearing once more from her ravaged throat. She fumbles for the light, and it is not until the switch is turned on and the room is flooded with the orange glow of her lamp that she can breathe.

There is no charging bear, no wild terror as her baby sister is hunted down. Edmund is not begging her to save their siblings life.

There is no life to save. Edmund... Lucy... Peter... they are all lost. There was no dwarf waiting in the wings with an arrow to save them. There was only the pain and loneliness.

There were no talking beasts. No Narnia at all. There was nothing but the silence.

She laid back down and curled into a ball. Her arms wrapped around her legs and ached to hold onto someone. Ached for the warmth of her sister or the familiar scent of her brothers.

She lays there, ignoring the tears staining her cheeks and tries not to remember.

She does not want to know what she has forgotten.

    Summary

Susan Pevensie liked to pretend that she couldn’t remember the sweet taste of Narnia air. She liked to cover up her crown with curls made neat with pins. She hid her queenly speeches behind red lipstick, she concealed her waltzes with fast paced jazz and she clouded over her Narnian accent with flirtations and giggles. Maybe it was a sin, and perhaps she could hear Aslan’s disappointed roar echo with every click clack her stylish shoes made on London’s cruel black pavement, but she turned her cheek and ignored it in favor of life, in favor of a numbness that tuned out the pain of losing Narnia.
