Once royalty, then a crime empire, the line of Durin now ekes out a living in an old apartment building on the edges of an underworld ready to see them fall.
Thorin, having seen his grandfather and father killed, has an ever burning desire for vengeance and to see their fortunes restored, while Smaug would prefer to see the job he started decades ago finally finished. Fili, while apperciating his duty to his family, would really rather attend the college classes he pays for and Bilbo Baggins...
Well he wasn't really expecting any of this.

Bilbo and Thorin have been together for eight years, married for four, and have gotten only disappointments during the two years they have tried to become parents (mainly through denials of adoption applications, though one time was through a very bad surrogate option that Thorin will not speak of and Bilbo seems to shut down if asked about).
And then Thorin's nephews, who he hasn't seen for three and a half years, appear on their doorstep and Frodo, the only child of Bilbo's last living relatives (well, the last living relatives that speak to him at least) and Bilbo's godson ends up with them and...
They go from being childless to have three sons.
But whoever said the journey stopped when the goals were realized?

Summary
This story is part of the Melpomaen the Elfling universe.
Ereolas is the reborn King Oropher and is married to Cirdan. They live in Mithlond. He has decided to write his memoirs of when he was King of the Greenwood and also record the details of his life in Mithlond in anecdotal, diary form.
To familiarise yourself with the characters you could read Melpomaen the Elfling first, but it is not necessary.
Here is a brief synopsis of the events leading up to this story:
Melpomaen and Ereolas are Erestor and Legolas’ elflings. Ereolas is King Oropher reborn and so Legolas actually gave birth to his grand ada. Ereolas is able to speak, read, write, be a pain in the ass, as soon as he is born. Shortly after his birth, he demands his old throne back. His parents and the Valar, who prefer Thranduil as king, resist him. Ereolas accepts, in the end, that he will never be a king again and adopts a new hobby: researching and imposing the rules of etiquette. He terrorises everyone with etiquette.
Oropher’s soul mate is Cirdan and when he came of age they were married and moved to Mithlond. Recently, Ereolas has found that he carries the curse of Legolas.
