    Summary

The visual mood of Sherlock: The Abominable Bride reminded me of the stories of Edgar Allan Poe, especially the scenes in the crypt and the scenes outside Sir Eustace's house at night, this shot in particular. All together, they made me want to actually place the Victorian versions of Sherlock and John from TAB in Doyle's late 1800s setting and to have the narrator of Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher bring the mystery of his friend's death to them to investigate.

So, the exterior of Sir Eustace's house plays the part of the House of Usher. Imagine the interior equally dark and full of things even older than the facade.

    Summary

A new client wants Sherlock Holmes to investigate the fall of the House of Usher. Doctor Watson ponders the use of forenames.

Excerpt: Holmes had held up the dagger and grinned at me, pushing away the hair that had fallen into his eyes and smearing muck across his face in the process. The steel blade had glittered in the sunlight as he turned it to read the inscription around the ornate hilt.

“Best not to commit crimes with family heirlooms,” he had observed.

    Summary

A friendship blooms slowly into something more between childhood friends while the mysterious woman in white edges closer and closer towards her purpose in the story. The time spent between our three main characters during our narrator's visit is largely left broad and purposely not detailed in the original working of "The Fall of the House of Usher". This short story is a closer look into the emotions and redeveloping relationship between Roderick and the narrator during their time spent together at the mansion with several enigmatic appearances made by one Madeline Usher.
