Summary
Thor takes a good look at Loki once he has hauled him back onto the quinjet, and realizes that there is something odd about Loki's eyes. Thor has grown and changed much in the last year, and no longer takes anything for granted. So he starts asking questions. It doesn't take long to figure out that Loki is not acting of his own free will.
Tony Stark knows what it is to be forced to do as an enemy commands. Steve Rogers has seen the atrocities manipulative madmen are willing to commit. Clint, Logan, Bruce and Natasha have been subjected to said madmen. They all know what it is to lose themselves, and to seek redemption.
Together, this band of broken heroes draws a line in the sand. They will not tolerate any tyrant, foreign or domestic. That includes Nick Fury and the WSC, who have used everyone on the team for their own aims. It includes Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, who has hunted Bruce against all reason. It includes Odin, who treats his sons like commodities. And it includes Thanos, who has delusions of conquering Earth.
Along the way, they learn to trust each other. They learn to help each other. They become a family.

Summary
When General Thunderbolt Ross reappears, Bruce knows things are going to go from bad to worse. With all the changes that have happened since he joined the Avengers, it was only a matter of time before the cycle of cat and mouse they'd always played started up again. Only now, Bruce and the Hulk have an ace up their sleeves -- one Clint Barton.
This is the first part of a story arc called "The Broken Blade" and the 10th story in the Hulkeye series. This story is told from Bruce and the Big Guy's point of view. The second part of this series, "From the Ashes" will be told from Clint's POV. You can read this without reading the others, but some things will make more sense if you go back and start with "Know When to Hold 'Em."

Dr Bruce Banner is on the run after his "accident". It's not common knowledge that the monster that leaves disaster in it's wake is one mild mannered (you'd better hope he's mild mannered) scientist, but Bruce is still a wanted man, and still trying to dodge the law, the army and god knows who else might be out for what they can get from him, alive or not. All he knows is, he has to keep running.
So he's standing at a bus stop and a beautiful woman walks up behind him.

Steve doesn't understand why he and Tony just don't get along, and finally fed up begins asking for help amongst his fellow Avengers. The eye-opening results put him on a path to a new self-awareness and better relationship with the whole team, not just Tony.
Meanwhile, Tony is seeking a new opportunity to be a better hero, to open new doors to a better world besides just clean energy. After all, between politics, research, cost, competitor's contracts, and other issues, it will be decades before that shows any real results on a nationwide scale, much less global. Perhaps Alpha/Omega rights, something he can support now, will suit the bill?
He might even come out of hiding himself. -

Bruce pondered. Everything that he loves has been taken away from him. His mum, Betty, everything. He is the man who has so much, and yet lost so many.
He glanced at Tony, who is behind him, playing with the holograms, trying to create a new Iron Suit. Tony Stark, his best friend and possible crush. And yes Bruce is very very lucky indeed to have a best friend like him.
Took Bruce with him, provides Bruce with every single thing he needed, gives Bruce his own lab. I mean, how much could a cast away like him can even get?!
Huh, cast away. Bruce grinned bitterly at that thought. He is a cast away. A cast away from the rest of the world. He is nothing. He's not rich, he's not handsome, damn if he's cool or something like that. While Tony on the other hand...Tony is nice, kind -even though he doesn't really show it, a billionaire, genius, talented. Gosh, it's everything that Bruce isn't.
His heart aches.Tony is just too good to be true. Too good for him.
