Summary
In another universe, the Imperial Fleet came to Earth without warning, in the early years of the Cold War. Just as suddenly, nuclear warfare served as the ultimate warning to stay away, and the Earth was safe. The crashed ships full of abandoned officers and slaves, not so much.
Fast forward to present day, and the Earthbound troll population has been forced to survive in a human-dominated society that doesn't take kindly to their decades-long presence. Between having to resort to archaic and undignified methods of reproduction, legally-mandated drugs to suppress their more trollish attributes, and clashes between Alternian and Earth-hatched generations, survival looks to be a difficult task, indeed.

Dave Strider, a rebellious teenager, has grown up learning American Sign Language because of his half deaf brother. When John Egbert, who is mute, moves into the house next to him and starts public school for the first time in his life, it seems like fate that it would bring these two together so that Dave could help him through his school life as well as making friends. They could communicate, they were around the same age, and they were both teenage boys... too bad Dave kind of hates his guts at first. John’s not really too fond of this punk kid trying to be cool, either.... or perhaps he is.

In which seven and a half sweeps old Karkat Vantas, member of her Imperial Luminesce's Threshecutioner Corps, takes his moirail's kismesis out on an errand, encounters a variety of problems to do with sea monsters, becomes involved in excruciatingly complicated relationship tangles with his moirail's kismesis' inclade and ends up flipping as many tables as he does quadrants. Contains two ocean-going fight scenes, one lusus, distressing incidences of clown cultism, his lawyer, and absolutely no interactions with the quinity whatsoever.

Summary
Karkat is a troll, a mutant to be exact. Before the war, there was a use for mutants like him. But now that the war with the humans are long over, mutants have once again become a liability to the Queen. So he is thrown across the Border which connects between the two countries (Prospit and Derse). It is dangerous since humans and trolls alike still feel anger and hatred towards one another. Karkat can only hope that no human finds him, but of course with his luck, he gets the most annoying human of them all and worse of all he may develop feelings for this idiotic human!
