For Kahlan, it is the one place safe from Darken Rahl's prying eyes that she can record her grief, her fury, and her increasingly conflicted feelings. Forced to wed her worst enemy, she searches for a way to make this life bearable until her Seeker returns. But her growing affection for her husband and her fears for her children lead her to question her duty to help the Seeker fulfill the prophecy, and threaten to tear her heart in two.
For Richard, the Mother Confessor's journal is one of the last links he has to his beloved Confessor. When he finds Kahlan's diary in Nicholas Rahl's study, he cannot resist reading about the life she led in those missing six decades, but he is not prepared for the anguish he feels at both her sorrows and her joys.
