Summary
As he approached the tent, there was another crashing noise, a strangled grunt, and the sound of Gan Ning's brash laughter. They were making so much noise, it was a wonder the rest of the camp wasn't awake and on their way to complain. Perhaps Gan Ning's reputation was keeping them all at bay; the soldiers might be impressed by all his posturing and pirate stories, but Lu Meng was having none of it.

Sun Jian was at least twice his age, and too powerful a man to trifle with; in the light of day Zhou Yu would have been the first to advise against such a dalliance. But now, with the heat of the wine and his lord's praise filling him, Zhou Yu could summon only the barest shred of caution. His eyes lingered on the gleam of firelight on his lord's silver hair, on the broad lines of the muscles beneath Sun Jian's armour, on the rich scarlet and gold of his robes. Faced with such a sight, Zhou Yu had no more hope that a moth circling a flame.

He struggles as Xiahou Dun chains him up to the wall, thrashing and writhing so much that the general has to use the weight of his body to keep the young man in place until the manacles have snapped shut. "Villain!" Ma Chao cries over his shoulder towards the King of Wei. "Traitor! Do what you will, Ma Chao will never yield to the likes of you!"

"Whatever talents you have, they're evidently not strategic in nature…" Sima Yi laughed, an awful, frightening sound that sent a chill through Ma Su's flesh. More frightening still was the slow, careful motion of those metal claws, stroking over the skin of Ma Su's cheek and mouth. The young man instinctively licked his lips, and shuddered at the touch of cold metal against his tongue. His shudder earned another unnerving laugh from his captor. "Perhaps your master simply keeps you around to entertain him?"
