In Progressive Era New York, Steve was a skinny son of a butcher from Brooklyn. One night at a concert saloon with his parents and his best gal, he was captivated by vaudevillian, Bucky Barnes. This was the start of Steve's new life in Manhattan including being a kept companion for the rich Mr. Stark and helping out with Great War veteran Mr. Coulson and a group of suffragettes.

Maybe SHIELD is a sanctuary for the broken. In the world outside, Omegas cry oppression and Alphas cry aggression and all of the Betas in between are forced to pick sides and if they pick the wrong side, they are accused of classism or sexism; they are accused of privilege and bigotry. They are in the majority where it is safest to say nothing.
Within SHIELD, Betas’ opinions matter. Omegas are respected but not fetishised. Alphas admit their weaknesses.
As far as Steve can tell, though; Alphas still don’t go with Alphas.

Loki never asked his mother for a new life, to move to America, to start at a new school, or for a step-brother. He certainly didn't ask for said step-brother to be built like the Norse god he's named for, and he didn't ask for his body to react anytime said step-brother touched him. Well, it doesn't matter that Loki didn't ask for any of it because that is his new life, and he better learn to deal with it.
SHIELD Academy is one of the top schools in the nation, but the students are even more colorful. Loki makes "friends"—using that term flexibly—fast, and that's all great except for he's falling faster.
Loki hates people, has always hated people, for a reason. It looks like those reasons are his life now.

Summary
Steve's known that there are other worlds out there; he just hasn't paid much attention to them. Living with Bucky and helping out the Avengers is a full time job, and he doesn't have time to daydream about things like that when he can hear about them at work. When they get called in to investigate the appearance and deaths of Incubi and Succubi civil war survivors, they find that a portal has been opened between their two worlds. Wanting to do the right thing, Steve offers to go through and talk to those in charge - only he didn't count on getting stuck on the other side.
Once he's back on earth, though, he's got a whole bunch of different problems on his hands. An annoyingly brilliant Incubus has followed him back and he's left to deal with the mess all by himself.
