    Bookmarker's Notes

Ever since I stumbled upon seperis' mind-blowing series, Down to Agincourt, I've basically been trying to read everything and anything related to that. It's surprising, to be honest, that it took me this long to read the poem that was the inspiration for the books' name and summary.

Simple, compelling. I love poems that tell a whole story -- had this argument with someone a few years ago: poetry is not for feelings and situations only, and just as prose can be poetic, poems can include plot. Anyway, Harry Takes the Field contains both, which is awesome. I also like the dramatic effect that somehow manages to build and escalate, reaching peak and climbing higher; it is so hard to keep those peaks without falling to cliches, and I really appreciate it. I'm not sure that, without knowing beforehand that the poem is related to DtoA, I would've made the connection- but, a. it doesn't really matter, as the poem is a stand alone work of art and is good enough to be able to back itself up and, b. I guess because I knew about the connection going in, I could see that there actually are similarities, as many as can be between a two-paragraphs poem and an over one million words WIP book series, so (I mean that, btw-- the mud, the army, the enemy that is both known but remains unseen, the lonely posture of a lone soldier, a lone leader, and the determination that shines from him onto the field-- these are DtoA 101, it's all there even in Maps).

    Anyway. Yeah.
