Sent to the Chantry at 17, Sebastian Vael doesn't deny that he fully deserved to be called the Black Sheep of the Vael family. Just when the decision seems clear, he meets Aspasia Hawke. Sebastian finds himself questioning his decisions, values, even his faith as he follows the apostate around Kirkwall. Before long, the Prince is head-over-heels for Hawke but there's a problem; she's spoken for. Can Sebastian bear to let love slip through his fingers again?
Meanwhile, the citizens of Starkhaven struggle under the puppet regime of Johane Harimann. Can the few supporters of the Exiled Prince evade the blood mage's wrath long enough to raise an army? Will Sebastian even want the crown so many have died for?
