Summary
Rory has a part-time gig at the local coffee shop in a Pennsylvania small town to help make ends meet; journalism isn't exactly a lucrative profession. Today, there's a man encroaching upon her sacred space, reading Anais Nin and interrupting Rory's peace and quiet with smoldering gazes and the temptation of beard burn.

Summary
Jess Mariano is 12 and he hates himself, 15 and he hates his mother more, and when 18 finally rolls over he’s stuck in a too small town filled with too many large people and the only thing he didn’t hate about it ran away from him and this mimicry of a town.
(And just for that, he thinks he hates her too.)

Summary
He’s cold and hard and doesn’t listen when people talk, but he’s so tired that when she says, “I’m Rory Gilmore,” when she tosses out the fake name that rolls like water off of her tongue, “and this is the TARDIS,” that he just nods and lets himself be shoved inside.
He looks around and is so curious that she can feel it rolling off of him in waves, but instead he just fingers the worn out book in his pocket and nods, says, “I’m Jess Mariano, but you knew that already.”
There’s distrust behind his eyes and she knows that he can see her lie, but she just grins and says, “How would you like to see everything?”
(And when he runs away, she doesn’t blame him, because even though it hurts everything inside of her it’s her turn to be the one left standing still.)

Summary
A couple of weeks before Mom and Luke’s wedding, Jess shows up. Rory almost has a heart attack the first time she sees him, sprawled casually on a bench with a copy of something folded in one hand.
