Summary
A wolf note - also called a wolf tone or simply a wolf - is produced when a played note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body of an instrument (especially a cello), amplifying and expanding the frequencies of the original note, producing a sound which may be likened to the howling of an animal. The sound is sometimes described as being unpleasant, and string musicians try to work around it.
The cello was the instrument of choice in creating the Winterfell theme for the "Game of Thrones" soundtrack.
