    KING RICHARD II

Tell me lies; I beseech this of thee
to tell me treason hath befallen me
and truths are spared, as Bushy’s life was spared
and Bushy yet may still return to me!

    SIR STEPHEN SCROOP

As sov’reign liege, I cannot tell thee lies
though ‘tis with sadness that I must refuse
for doing so sham’st tender lips like mine
which seldom speak a word with cause to bruise.

    KING RICHARD II

Then be it true? ‘Tis so, that Bushy lies
a traitor in the eyes of Bolingbroke
and angel in the eyes of our fair Lord?

An alternate reaction from Richard II to the death of Bushy in act 2 scene 3. Written in the style of the rest of the play in an attempt to practice my iambic pentameter verse.

“Oh God,” he mutters, helping her wearily up from her dramatic pile upon the floor, “it’s the summer holidays, isn’t it?”

Blanche simply gives him a despairing look in response. An incredibly despairing look, a passionate one that he’s pretty sure would even put even his eleven year old self to shame, “Hal and Tom are being weird!”

“Stay there,” Richard mercifully interrupts him. And, even more mercifully in his humble opinion, doesn’t summon the damned monkey, “don’t move.”

“…I wasn’t going to,” he murmurs instead of thank you, for a simple thank you is for fools.

“Hm,” Richard doesn’t pay a bit of mind, only remains on his throne for a long few moments before rising to his feet – observing from a new vantage point like he could happily leave him kneeling for eternity, “I don’t trust you, sweet cousin. You have a way of wriggling.”
