This began as a playful one-off tumblr fic, but it grew a little. Captain Novak, retired home from the Navy, meets the elder Mr Winchester at a rather dull ball - and then meets him again when Mr Winchester's stepsister (Miss Harvelle) and ward (Miss Bradbury) decide to 'borrow' Captain Novak's coach for the afternoon.

As John tags along on the investigation, getting to know his new husband, he finds himself in a London full of mad natural philosophers, rejected suitors, one overbearing brother-in-law, and more terrifying experiments than he could ever imagine.
