Erik is a writer haunted by the First World War.
Charles is a paraplegic poet wounded in the third Battle of Ypres, the Battle of Passchendaele.
He emigrated to New York, where Erik is the toast of the town for his gritty portrayals of love and loss in post-war America.
Or, you know, the usual: a love story between two broken people trying to make a go of it in the midst of massive social upheaval.

Summary
Racism, scar/body dysphoria.
"Damian had places he’d rather not be touched or even looked at. There were more places than one—the back of his knees, his inner elbows, his sides—but especially his spine. He hated to be shirtless, even when it was only him in the room. Even if it was in front of his mother. He knew that many people had seen him that way, in the test tube, but he tried not to think about it.
It was just another reminder. He was never perfect, so he had to be made that way."

"'Nam was a hell away from home. It smashed open the gates of perception with an eight iron to the cranium. Dazed and confused we torched the wings off the better angels of our nature and soothed the bleeding stumps with napalm. Everything burned in 'Nam."

To the others at Torchwood "Rhea Silva" was just another password, yet to Jack Harkness it was something far more: a throwback to his days in India at the height of the British Raj. Moreover it was a poignant reminder of a relationship of equals.

Summary
Originally written for the Glee Angst Meme on LiveJournal. Prompt: Kurt and Mercedes are out one night by themselves (preferably doing something that would be seen as romantic, like dinner or a movie) when they're attacked by a group of thugs. Both of them are severely injured and can't provide details about the attack for whatever reason. Maybe they're too drugged up on painkillers, maybe one or both is comatose, maybe it's post-traumatic amnesia, whatever. But they can't help the investigators figure out who did it.
Everyone, the media, their friends, their families, assume it was a gay bashing and that Mercedes just got caught in the crossfire.
The truth? It was a gang of racists who thought Kurt was Mercedes' boyfriend. They wanted to... express their opinions on interracial dating.
No character death please, and I'd prefer it to end with the attackers getting caught but that's up to the writer.
WARNINGS FOR THE FOLLOWING: racially based violence, racial and gay slurs, repressed memories

Summary
"Let's all sit around the campfire and share stories of past, Of pain and agony and nightmares and nightmares that last.No. No, let it not rhyme, or have rhythm at all. Instead, let it scream and cry and beg and be a little broken, like the barrell of a gun."
Or 'the one where the kids sit around and talk about their past after getting a little drunk and in their room Erik is a mentally angst-ridden guilt mess and Charles says nothing about himself at all".
All done in poetry. Of course.
