John Sheppard had a choice: take his chances with a court martial in the good ol' USAF or GTFO, Stage Left. He GTFO'd and his cousin, Colonel Jack O'Neill, was fed up for reasons of his own and also skedaddled. The two of them hopped around the country for a while, doing odd jobs, until they settled in Perfection Valley, Nevada. They met an odd cast of characters when they settled in the neglected little town - and that was just the HUMAN folk. When something starts killing off the locals, it's up to John, Jack, and Rodney McKay (astrophysicist, engineer, and soon-to-be seismologist) to dig up the dirt on what's shaking down Perfection.

He also doesn't really figure out that that's what's going on until King Rodney, somewhat dramatically, renounces the throne of Canada and manoeuvres John's father into happily agreeing to marry his spare heir off to a man. And then there's the part where John suddenly gets stationed on the most exciting base ever.

This story centers around John and Rodney's life together, after their first meeting, a sexual encounter in a mall, induced by their genetic compatibility. John and Rodney struggled most of their lives with their feelings about their cycling and rare compatibility respectively. As their relationship progresses, they have to realize that they still haven't quite found out what they want, but it becomes increasingly clear that however they deal with their genetic compatibility, it's the non-genetic one that matters to them.
