"Venture hither through the vaults, in full resolve to pay your faults. Hope and pray you choke upon the nitre just before. Intoxication, tainting vice- accounted for to count your price, And here I was pedantic, we needn't any gore. Bind you to your sins, set in stone unopened doors. Tonight I'll work and nothing more."
"The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, retold in the style of his great poem "The Raven."

“I never asked you to come get me!” Violet shouted as he slammed the bedroom door...'

Hello and thank you for waiting so patiently for Part 4!

Slight change in format; I've made the chapters shorter, but that means there are more chapters. The plan is to post once a week until this fic is out of WIP hell. Then I'll post twice a week (real life allowing...)

There is another fandom in this fic that's not tagged because of spoilers.

Huge thanks and love to my beta cadoganwest, who betas with a migraine. You don't get much more BAMF than that. XOXO.

SO - let's start this story off with a trigger warning for violence and a promise of smut!

Thank you for sticking with me and this story for so long and all the comments, kudos, bookmarks and subscriptions :^)

When Prince Prospero ordered that no one be let in or out of his abbey, many were left outside the walls. This story details the experience of a sealed-out peasant. Credit to Edgar Allan Poe for writing the original story and doctorlit for giving me the idea behind this.

What happens after the end of "A Cask of Amontillado"? How does Lady Fortunato react to her husband going missing? How does Montresor deal with the guilt of killing a man for revenge?

This is a work I created for an English class. The prompt was "Write what happens before or after the story 'The Cask of Amontillado'." I chose to write about what happens after the end, and this is the result. I hope you enjoy! <3

The visual mood of Sherlock: The Abominable Bride reminded me of the stories of Edgar Allan Poe, especially the scenes in the crypt and the scenes outside Sir Eustace's house at night, this shot in particular. All together, they made me want to actually place the Victorian versions of Sherlock and John from TAB in Doyle's late 1800s setting and to have the narrator of Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher bring the mystery of his friend's death to them to investigate.

So, the exterior of Sir Eustace's house plays the part of the House of Usher. Imagine the interior equally dark and full of things even older than the facade.
