Originally a fill posted at norsekink in response to the prompt:
"After the Avengers capture Loki at the end of the movie, they lock him up as a precaution before shipping him off to Asgard. And being the good guys, they decide to give him the chance to bathe and dress in clean clothes instead of sleeping in his own dirty rags.
The problem is, without the whole battle gear and the drawn and mean look, Loki looks surprisingly young, which prompts the Avengers to ask Thor just how old Loki really is. Of course Loki is centuries old, but Thor tells them that in human standard, Loki would still be considered underage!
Cue to horrified Avengers who wants to know exactly what sort of crappy home life Loki must have had to end up like this before even reaching adulthood."
It rather spiralled from there into a behemoth, now in the process of being edited and hopefully cleaned of glaring plotholes! Updated daily.

Summary
Loki's sentence for his invasion of Earth is Punishment by Ordeal. During this ordeal his once almost-wife, Sigyn, appears to help him through it and support his plan from inside his confinement. When Odin suddenly releases Loki to Earth with Thor, the brothers get a chance to reconcile before it becomes apparent that something is wrong back home and Sigyn returns to Midgard with the news Loki had suffered so much to make sure never happened. The Other has made it to the Nine Realms, Asgard lies in ruins and the sons of Odin are called upon to meet their fate.

After the events in Manhattan and upon punishment, Loki is thrown back to Midgar. Powerless and without any recollection of what happened before he woke up on Earth, Loki works at the local Starbucks and struggles to pay his bills and keep food on his table.
On top of his struggles, everybody seems to be wary of him for a reason that Loki cannot recall. People are not kind to him, businesses refuse to give him a job, and his hours at Starbucks keep getting reduced. Stressed and worried that he won't be able to pay his bills, Loki is quickly falling into depression.
One day the well known billionaire, Tony Stark, walks into Starbucks to purchase coffee for his coworkers and himself and is met with an all too familiar face, a face that haunts his nightmares. But the fact that Loki cannot remember anything strikes him as odd and even more fascinating.

An AU wherein Thor is working with the Avengers on Earth both as a way of preparing himself for kingship but also as a means of improving diplomatic relationships between Asgard and Midgard. Celebrating a victory by throwing a feast for himself and Captain America in honour of their most recent successful partnership, Thor could not have anticipated the turn the evening would take when his comrade in arms and his little brother are found in a compromising position by Odin and Frigga, or that they would demand such a price of Earth - and of Loki - as redress in the name of Asgard's honour.
But is it truly out of care for Loki, or are there deeper machinations at work?

Summary
Like anyone else his age who has never really fitted in and has reached that difficult transitionary stage between neglected, awkwardly-grown child, and embittered, damaged almost-adult, Loki does his utmost to dissociate himself with everything going on around him, and he's well aware of what he's doing. That doesn't stop Sigyn forcing him to look at his life and choices and make something of the ones that aren't complete bullshit and fuckery, and it certainly doesn't prevent Loki from becoming involved in something he never envisioned happening to someone like him with someone he barely knows who isn't so much making Loki play by the rules as he goes along with Loki's way of doing things as he is gradually showing Loki how to do things unconventionally without disregarding all the bits that make doing it at all worthwhile and good.
Maybe Loki should have considered the consequences of his actions more thoroughly before diving headfirst into something he can't accept being all too ready for because it might be good for him.
