"You've heard of my habit of acquiring other lords' officers, I take it?" Cao Cao says, watching the silent young man with obvious amusement. "Perhaps you fear you're in danger of being stolen away?"
The feelings welling up inside him are suddenly too much, too confusing, entirely too strange for Nagamasa to endure. Excusing himself abruptly, mumbling some nonsensical excuse, the young man rushes as fast as he can away from Cao Cao and from his conflicting urges, as if chased by demons every step of the way.

Summary
The look of hunger on Yukimura's face as Nobunaga draws his pistol confirms everything Mitsuhide suspected. The boy's gaze stays locked on the barrel of the gun, even as Nobunaga points it toward him. Mitsuhide has seen men have the same reaction to the sight of a blade, to the form of a well-made sword or a finely-wrought spear — and of course, any weapon wielded by his lord is captivating to him — but Yukimura's fascination with the pistol is novel even for him.

The cold smile as he drove his sword into yet another hapless enemy; the satisfaction in his eyes as he stood surrounded by the bodies of the fallen; Mitsuhide pictured himself the object of that cruelty, captive and utterly subjugated.
