    Summary

This is a rewrite of Jane Austen's “Northanger Abbey”, this time told from the perspective of Henry Tilney. Since the original is named for the Tilney’s home, I thought this reimagining should be named for the Morland’s.

Every chapter is named after the canon chapter it was based on, but I will be filling in the gaps that Austen leaves with my own (fluffy, but historically accurate) imaginings.

Speaking of canon, large parts of this story are necessarily lifted word for word from the book and I made use of this wonderfully convenient online text to do it.

    Summary

Henry Tilney finds himself the second magician in England. He is not terrifically thrilled by this. Especially since it means being shunted off into the army, an institution he has spent four-and-twenty years avoiding, and dealing with Mr. Norrell, who does not appreciate his jokes. Fortunately, Catherine Morland has spent eighteen years training to be a heroine....

“No man is offended by another man’s admiration of the woman he loves; it is the woman only who can make it a torment.”
-- Henry Tilney, Northanger Abbey, Vol. II, Ch. IV

In a way, Henry is right. In another, more accurate way, he's entirely incorrect.

    Summary

When a young man is born to be a hero, something must and will happen to throw a love interest in his way. Thus, seventeen year old Sherlock Holmes is invited by Mrs. Hudson to accompany her to Bath, where he meets the dashing Captain John Watson. Soon his life begins to resemble one of the gothic novels of which he is so fond, as he becomes enmeshed in the schemes of Irene and James Moriarty, and finds himself embroiled in the mysteries surrounding Southanger Abbey.

All I did was watch DVDs to relax in the evening. How did I suddenly end up in the 17th and 18th Centuries? How do I get out of here? And what if I don't want to leave?

Much credit to be given to original authors and screenwriters of all the stories featured here. I haven't specifically attributed quotes, but assume that if it's super duper amazing, it's probably quoted.

From her earliest years Eleanor Tilney would have preferred not to be the heroine of a Gothic romance, but no one thought to ask her opinion, except her brother Henry, and his best friend--both of whom would scorn the role of hero.

'Fanny was the mute earth to Mary's leaping fire, the gnarled oak to her fluttering songbird, the mirror-bright millpond to her restless waves. If one could somehow, with propriety, squeeze both ladies into a single body, the resultant heroine would be beyond anything shewn by Mrs. Radcliffe! She might paddle down the Amazon, contest a knotty theological point with the Pope, battle venomous water snakes with a hat pin and a bottle of hartshorn, and sink into a dead faint at the villain’s merest glance, as if he were some species of basilisk!' Or, Mansfield Park meets Northanger Abbey
