Loki takes his revenge for a long ago slight, and Odin decides to send him away to Midgard so he can learn what it means to go without, to depend on others and scrape at the edges. To be hungry.
Yet, Loki is a child, quick witted besides, he must be kept from turning it all to his advantage, and Odin is not willing to strip even more knowledge from his adopted son's mind. So his heritage is revealed gently, and told it will keep him safe from the biting winters. His powers will return as he becomes more worthy, and he will return to Asgard as a Prince ought.

When the very last thin wisp leaves his body, Loki sags against the bonds. The guards remove the chains and he nearly collapses on the floor; he’s harmless now. Mortal. Loki spares a moment’s glance upward at Odin, summoning the last of his strength into a glare so vitriol and poisonous – green demanding the return of that which was just stolen, millennia of magic that was his by royal birthright all taken for Odin’s own purposes in an instant. Nothing but a thief and a liar.

A response came with startling immediacy, a whisper so near to his ear that he could feel the warm breath of the speaker. “Now, tell me. Is that an official prayer?” The voice was low and soft like dark silk, and if anything could have made this moment worse, it was recognizing who that voice belonged to- and then having his brain catch up and recognize who that voice belonged to. He and the universe, Tony Stark told himself, would have to have a little heart-to-heart about expectations.
