What started off as a hunt for a book to help the shy Tenda tribe became a grim venture beneath Stonehenge to rescue all the poor souls taken captive by the Starmen. But it's a long journey to save them, and Giygas' forces are many, so that when the Chosen Four finally arrive at the lair of the Starman Alpha, they're exhausted and drained.
The fight to free the prisoners, to continue their journey, is long and hard. And even though the children triumph in the end, thanks to a last desperate gambit by Jeff and more than a bit of luck, it's still going to take some time for all involved to heal.

On Poo's first night with them in Summers, Ness has a nightmare - a bad dream based on the vision he'd had that brought Poo to them in the first place. He wakes up shaken by his vision of Poo's ancestors, and the feeling of his legs breaking all over again. Fortunately, Poo is there to lend an ear to listen, and a steadying hand to help Ness up and comfort him a bit.
Upon waking, Ness means to get some Kraken Soup to fill his stomach. However, he winds up paying more attention to his new friend, and learning a lot about him. Just because they're different, doesn't mean they can't understand one another. Just because they come from different walks of life, doesn't mean they can't be friends.

Summary
Jeff has come a long way to rescue Ness and Paula, and now he's finally arrived. Now he has to get to know the two he's come so far for, and they have to get to know him. Jeff has his anxieties and his doubts, and the madness that is Threed only makes them worse. After all, it's been days since Paula first called him out of bed, and he can see by looking at his new friends that they didn't have quite enough food to see them through the wait.
And, compared to Ness and Paula's vast psychic power and boundless confidence, by comparison Jeff thinks that the only useful thing he can do for them is open a door. He doesn't even have enough money to buy them a pizza to apologize and help them recover from the ordeal.
Ness has no doubts whatsoever about his new friend or the path forward. He has no problems with paying for pizza. It takes Paula to explain that, and get Jeff to forgive himself for making them wait

Transportation to Threed is secured. Ness has found and unlocked the power of two "Your Sanctuary" locations. Perhaps more importantly, he's found a friend to walk with him on this long and dangerous journey.
Paula deals with the anxiety of leaving home of her own volition, of leaving behind everything she's ever known to follow Ness. She knows that it's the right decision, but that doesn't mean she isn't scared.
Safely on the Runaway Five's bus, spared having to walk for once, both boy and girl find themselves confronting some new feelings, and contemplating the journey ahead and what it might take from them to complete it. Fortunately, whatever Giygas decides to throw their way, they don't have to confront it anymore, and they're grateful for that. New shoes are important, but so is showing that you just care.
