Months after Amarantha’s death, Rhysand, High Lord of the Night Court, disappears, leaving his court ripped apart and no heir apparent. His disappearance (or death, as many speculate) leaves questions unanswered, the least of which who will now rule the Night Court.
And then the power chooses Feyre, shackling her very soul to the Court she fears most.
As she navigates the dazzling, mysterious politics of Night, more and more questions arise.
What does this mean for her engagement to Tamlin? Is Rhysand really dead? Who is so dead-set on razing the Court of Night? And why did the magic choose her?
Only the Laws of Succession can tell.
“Welcome to the Night Court, High Lady,” was all the Morrigan said, flanked by the two winged males.
I looked past her, to the glittering expanse of sea and starlight, the untouched city swathed in shadows and menace and beauty.
Morrigan’s face was hard, no surprise since she’d just lost her cousin. But deep within her eyes…there was something, a glimmer of feeling.
Something in me inherently knew her, knew this city, this court, even that she-monster Amren.
Mine, it said. A whisper.
All of this. It’s all mine.

"Her lips upon his were scolding, boiling him alive, molten metal poured over the icy abyss of his soul. His hands engulfed her, the abeyant pull roaring to new heights. It took all his control to not crush her to him, to remember her body was no more but a fallen autumn leaf, carefully tucked between the pages of a book to keep from crumbling."
Set about a week after the events of ACOTAR, this story follows a finally free Rhysand as he meets a different Feyre, a girl marred by the promise she made to her mother, tortured by her reality, fighting to keep herself and her family alive by any means. A girl that never killed a wolf, never fell for Tamlin, never went Under the Mountain.
The story examines how Rhysand and Feyre's relationship would have unfolded were they to meet under different circumstances, when the stakes for human Feyre were higher, and when Rhysand no longer believed in hope.
Oh, and of course right as she robs him.
Later chapters will be marked as NSFW.

“The Morrigan,” The one in the middle spoke; the eldest, she presumed. “We too appreciate your swift arrival, and the gesture offered by your court. We look forward to discussing terms of this Treaty with you and ending this war.”
It sounded like the script of a play, written down and rehearsed, and maybe it was the tight tone in the middle Queens voice, but Mor had trouble believe she was pleased to have them here. Desperate times, desperate measures.
“Tomorrow,” It wasn't the middle queen that spoke this time, but one of the Queens on the end. She looked smaller somehow. Younger. The Queen to her left shot her a look that read of her displeasure at the woman speaking out. Mor's gaze lingered on her. A mane of golden hair framed her dark face, where amber eyes were framed by thick lashes. The panes of her face were fresh with youth, and peppered with freckles. A lion in a kitten's clothing. That was the thought that went through her mind. There was something about her. The way those amber eyes lingered on her. Unfaltering. Daring. It made Mor pause.
