“I used to think this was Hell. I mean, I always figured that’s where I was headed, if there was any afterlife. And then when I got here…there were no lakes of fire, or anything, but I was stuck on my own in a place where nothing grows or changes, so I figured, okay, Hell’s just a little different than I always thought it would be. But then, after a while…it wasn’t so bad. I found a place where I could kind of belong, and I met Toro and Brian and Bob and Mikey…and you. And I figure…if I was in Hell, falling in love shouldn’t really be in the cards, should it?
So after that, I started thinking—okay, maybe this place isn’t anything I ever heard about in school or church. But then again, maybe it is. Maybe this is Purgatory. And I always had the idea that Purgatory was kind of like prison, y’know, you gotta serve your sentence and the only thing that’s gonna get you out quicker is good behavior or having friends in high places. But maybe—maybe you don’t have to just sit around waiting for someone to tell you your sentence is up. Maybe Purgatory ends when you get yourself out of it.”

Michael didn’t seem particularly shocked when Gerard approached him with the idea, but then, Gerard had never seen his younger brother look particularly shocked at anything. He merely looked at Gerard, blinked once or twice, and repeated in a flat tone, “You want me to help you dress up like a woman.”
“It’s the stays in particular I think I’ll need help with,” Gerard told him. “Well, and buttoning the dress, and perhaps the wig.”

Summary
When Frank, a sickly young man, is advised by his doctors to leave London for the country, he makes arrangements to stay with his friend Michael, who just so happens to be in possession of a large, old, and somewhat creepy manor house. What Frank has no idea of at the time is that Michael has an older brother, whose presence in the house he conceals. Gerard is an eccentric recluse who spends most of his time hiding in the attic and avoiding any kind of interaction with people, but he finds himself fascinated with Frank, who in turn realizes that the house has secrets, and becomes determined to uncover them. When he finally does discover Gerard, their first meeting is only the beginning of their story.

Burn Bright fic: Gerard comes up with the song and shows it to the guys and Frank.
Gerard walked into the studio, holding the door open as Frank, Mikey, and Ray all walked in and moved around to find their seats. Frank took a stool, Mikey leaned up against the back wall, and Ray hopped up and onto the counter that was to the side. Gerard walked in behind the, closing the door to the chilly Jersey air. Gerard made his way to another stool, picking up an old and slightly beat-up Epiphone Les Paul, the brownish red one with what looks a bit like tiger stripes on it. The finish gleamed under the dim light of the band's homemade studio that they'd worked so hard to build together. As he readjusted the instrument in his lap and put his hands slightly over the neck, keeping the strings muted so they wouldn't make any noise in case he bumped up against them, he looked at each of the men in the room with him who were all looking at him expectantly. Mikey nodded at his brother, giving him the go ahead to start playing
