Kris tilts his face up and closes his eyes, pretending the hunters got fresh meat today, and that there are rain clouds on the horizon that'll sift cool, clear water down on all their sweaty heads. Everybody has their happy place these days, but Kris tries to make his attainable. There's no point in wishing the last five years never happened, because they did.

Summary
I've decided to make this a series because I suspect I'll be revisiting the Devilstone Universe as time goes by, for special situations.
Devilstone is a steampunk sci-fi western that uses the characters from season 8 of American Idol, most notably Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Fans of AI will notice several cameos and nods to the events, but by no means is having watched Idol necessary.
You don't even really need to know Kris and Adam to enjoy it, or so I've been told.

Summary
Adam Lambert has been receiving threatening letters and ‘gifts’ from an obsessed fan. When the stalking escalates, Adam’s record label refuses to allow him to go on tour unless he agrees to a bodyguard. The plan is to hide someone in plain sight – in Adam’s band. Adam categorically refuses to consider allowing just any old musician into his band, afraid that it might compromise the integrity of his second tour, but then he meets Kris Allen, who is actually quite good on the guitar, and pretty easy on the eyes. As they spend weeks together in the close quarters of a touring bus, Adam gets to know Kris. The two men grow closer and develop feelings for each other. Unfortunately, Adam’s feelings for Kris put him directly in the stalker’s sights. If they both survive Adam’s stalker, will their growing feelings for each other survive a grueling tour?

Shortly after the Civil war, a meteor crashed into Devil's
Tower and the earth began to change. Strange creatures roamed lands once
safe except for the occasional rattlesnake. A new ore, Devilstone, was
discovered, with truly unbelievable properties. Some folks thought it
was the end of the world. Some folks thought it was a new beginning.
Some folks turned tail and fled. A few years have passed since the Great
Trembling, and a small town has sprung up outside of Deadwood to house
the miners and adventure seekers that have come for the Devilstone and
the monster-infested Badlands. One of these men is Dr. Adam Lambert, PHD
in the new field of Abstract Science. To watch over his valuable
inventions and keep him safe on expeditions, he has hired the famous
gunslinger, Kris Allen, better known as Arkansas to his face, or Krissy
the Kid behind his back. The two men form a fast friendship as they
round up evil-dooers, battle real-live nightmares, and make a few
important discoveries about Devilstone, the human heart, and eachother.Awww, shucks, that made me cry.

Summary
Prince Adam, unseen for a decade, has long been rumored dead, and the otherworldly wails that come from the castle seem like proof to the provincial townspeople. Kris Allen has no time for rumors, busy as he is with his family's restaurant, Bella Rosa. However, when he must sneak onto palace grounds for a precious ingredient, misfortune leads him to a man who won't show his face and broadcasts overwhelming loneliness.
Prince Adam turned his back on his duties and his heart a decade ago, but the unexpected arrival of a man who doesn't judge his appearance--aided a great deal by Lord Brad forcing Kris to be blindfolded at all times--has caused Adam to ease out of his comfort zone. Even a hermitage as large as a castle can become too small. Too long he's hidden in the dark, and now, with this offering of solace and friendship Kris gives him, Adam wonders if he can reveal his true identity at last.
