    Summary

The beauty and the beast; the boy and the land-bound siren; the least interesting quality in either of them is the shape of their skin. Fleur is vain, selfish, petty, pretty, and she falls whole-heartedly into a war that isn’t hers.

Fleur is horrified when Molly thinks she will leave Bill for his scars. She is horrified that anyone would think her love skin deep, because Fleur Delacour, above all, knows what it is to be skin deep.

They have been casting her as that all her life, but this beauty was her skin, not her vanity. This was her birthright, as much as Harry’s green eyes or Bill’s red hair and the war on his heels. This was so far from her self.

    Summary

Nearly nine years ago I stopped Team Flare, and I met the legendary Pokémon. I gained a wish that activated when I was on the brink of death from Lysandre; I wished to live. I have been sixteen for nearly ten years, due to the aforementioned legendary Pokémon.

I am Marguerite Linden du Bois. Tomorrow, I begin a new career as a Pokémon professor. Tomorrow, I begin my rebellion.
    ______

This will be subject to my own interpretations of the Pokémon world, including that the ultimate weapon was only the start of dismantling Team Flare. It's more on worldbuilding, but I promise to write as I can!

ANNOUNCEMENT 25 Jun 2014: I will be attempting a weekly posting plan in light of summer school and the start of a new fic. This fic, with any luck, will be updated on Wednesday.

    Summary

There's a lot about Kevin Flynn's behavior that adds up more to a case of anti-hero or (come Betrayal and Legacy) something dangerously close to villain. Of course, part of that in Legacy are the writers; Horowitz and Kitiss run entirely on grayscale morality and characters who aren't as clear-cut on the alignment scale as they appear on first pass (just look at OUaT and LOST). Even worse is that the two other main characters of Legacy are his devoted disciple (who was saved by him while millions of others were left to die or worse) and the son who has desperately wanted to find him, characters who likely have a very large blind spot when it comes to his degree of culpability. I figure that the writers were probably intending a more flattering picture than this, but add up these points, and it doesn't look good for him.

    Summary

This is not a fic. Just a meta. ;) You can likely get something out of reading this even if you don't know the show.

Cami tells Klaus in episode 1x04, "I don’t believe in evil as a diagnosis. I think you have unstable personal relationships, stress-related paranoia, chronic anger issues, fear of abandonment. I think you could benefit from talking to someone professionally.” Then I realize these symptoms scream Borderline Personality Disorder to me. This is just a simple little meta analysis of this possibility of a legitimate psychological diagnosis to explain Klaus's behavior.

    Summary

As you know, Bob, the Barbverse is a post-Gift AU wherein a soulless Spike gets dosed with Mohra blood, transforming him into a living demon. He retains most of the strengths and weaknesses of your standard vampire, but since he’s now a living being rather than an animated corpse, they work a bit differently, and require somewhat different care and feeding. Today I’m gonna look at the feeding aspect.

"You're blind," was the first thing she realized upon hitting the pavement. Her brain didn't have the courtesy to make the world black—it was all gray now. Gray shapes of gray nothingness. She can't tell her visitors apart unless they speak, and she doesn't know how to react when a familiar voice greets her in place of Will's.

    Summary

In his 2009 book on Captain America comic books, war photography, and American propaganda, Everett claims: “There is nothing to suggest that either the graphic novels issued during the war or the photographs taken during Rogers’ stay with the Howling Commandos can serve as a basis for a queer reading of Rogers and Barnes’ relationship. But even more importantly, there is nothing to suggest that such a relationship ever existed in the first place, and as such, those queer readings are not only misguided, but also libelous” (197).

[from: Lynn E. Anderson, Captain America: Behind the Mask. Steve Rogers and the Contemporary Hero Narrative (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2012), p. 242.]

In the aftermath of Steve's return to the world of the living and the battle of New York, the academia and the Internet react.

    Summary

Of all these little meta digressions, this is more truly an essay and piece of lit-crit. I had a chunk of last night and this morning to think about the structure and nature of how a story is told, and what your perception of the story does to your choices of through-lines. This is a lit-crit essay focusing on *Sherlock*, and using Dorothy Sayers and Agatha Christie as paradigmatic examples of two different approaches to the development of narrative spines and through-lines. Meta. Essay. Lit-crit. Analysis. Dry. Somewhat academic. Consider yourselves thoroughly warned. My inner honor student shineth forth.
