They have the brightest of ideas to share a pretty intimate kiss backstage when a fangirl is watching (not me). (This could sound silly, but that's the only believable idea I got.) And even if Javier is known from smooching co-stars and directors, he's not known for kissing that way.
NOTE: I'm not really familiar with all this Oscar thingy/red carpets/movie promotions/etc. It might not be very accurate and sorry for that, but accuracy isn't my strong suit, I just write as it comes and try to put some sense into it.

Meryl has an imperious and demanding mother who just happens to be the head of a noble family of a mysterios group of people called the renonciates (called so because they chose to renounce the ways of Lost Technology in favor of finding a new way to make it on that world), A mother who is running out of patience with her daughter for not supplying her with grandchildren. Her solution, either her daughter will be courted and won, or the term twenty-four hour surveillance would take on a whole new meaning. Oh, and did we mention that Knives was waking up in all of this?
